CEC DA53インプレッション

Macと接続できるオーディオ用DAコンバーターCEC DA53を手に入れたことを以前のエントリで書いたけど、実際に少し使いこなしてみての感想を掲載してみたいと思う。DA53はDTM用ではなくオーディオ専用機としてUSB端子が用意されている製品は少ないだけに貴重なモデル。Mac OS Xの場合だとUSB端子を接続するだけで、特にドライバ等の複雑な設定をすることなく利用できて手軽。

他のDA53の使い勝手も少し紹介。このDAコンバーターはUSB専用ではなく、他にXLR端子のAES/EBUや同軸、光デジタル端子と入力端子も充実しているので、CDプレーヤーなどを（当然ながら）接続できるし、複数機器を接続して切り替えも可能。
またDAコンバート時のデジタル・フィルタ（DF）やディザ（DITH）、オーバーサンプリングの設定などいくつかの項目も設定可能。パネル右のつまみを使って設定するんだけど、１つのつまみでいろんな項目の設定を兼ねているから、若干使いにくいと思うことはあるけど、慣れで解決できる範囲。

おまけ機能。ヘッドフォン出力、マイク入力ともにミニジャック。

パネル左側には「おまけ機能」。ヘッドフォン出力とマイク入力端子、そしてマイク入力用ボリューム。これらの機能はUSB利用時のみ使える仕様になっている。
ヘッドフォン出力はDA53側ボリュームが一切無しで、パソコン側…通常はiTunesのボリュームつまみを動かして調整する仕様。試しにEtymotic ER-6i（16Ω）を使うとiTunesのボリュームが30%程度の位置で十分な音量。メーカーでは「おまけ」であって、あまり過度な期待しないように…と言っているようだけど、iPodからのヘッドフォン出力よりは全然良い音（コンバーターの性能なども違うから当然と言えば当然）。多くを求めなければ十分使える機能と思った。

マイク端子に関しては何故あるのかわからないし、その入力調整のためにボリュームつまみまで付いているのは理解不能。CECという会社は時々妙におまけに力を入れることがあって、不思議な設計をするトコロだな…と思うことがある。

肝心な音質について…まぁ個人的な印象などを。ちなみに音質チェックはMacで動作するiTunesでApple LosslessやAAC 192kbpsでエンコードされた音楽をいくつも聴いてみて判断。

一番最初に気がつくのは各楽器の定位がかなり明確になり、スッキリした感じになること。ベースの音などふわふわしてしまいがちなモノも、ハッキリとどこで鳴っているかわかる。すごく風通しが良くなったって思う。抽象的な例えで申し訳ないけど、若干濁っていた各楽器間の空気を、高原の澄み切った空気に入れ替えた…っていうような透き通った感じが印象的だった。もしかすると人によって、もしくは聴く音楽によっては「冷たい」って思うところもあるかも。

またボーカル（特に女性）では声がかなりスムーズで滑らかな感じに聴こえ、いままで聴いていたサウンドは若干ザラついていたんだな…と思ったりも。またしても変な例えでもうしわけないんだけど、ISO 400設定で撮影された写真とISO 50設定で撮影されたものを比べるような感じ。

DA53は総じてあんまり強い癖を感じなくて、そこそこ多様な音楽を気持よく鳴らしてくれた。ちょっと冷たい感じもあるかも…って言ったけど、このサウンドをウチのAura DesignのアンプとHarbethのスピーカーで鳴らすと、暖かみや響きがプラスされてさらにいい。Macで音楽聴くときにはこれらの組み合わせで、結構音楽を楽しめるモノになりそう。
